The median price of a used Volkswagen Golf is €4,990

The typical Golf sold is a 2011 model

1,565 Volkswagen Golfs were sold in Finland between 5 July and 4 August 2026. That is 2.6% of all used car deals completed during the month, which came to 59,393 in total. The median price was 4,990 €, while the median across the whole market was 10,600 €.

That figure does not mean the Golf is cheaper than other models. It tells you how old the Golfs are that change hands in Finland: the median model year was 2011 and the median mileage 215,590 km. The price range is so wide that the median does not describe any individual car. A quarter of the deals were done below 1,890 € and a quarter above 12,690 €.

The same gap shows in what is on offer compared with what actually sells. There are 1,551 Golfs listed right now and their median price is 9,900 €, twice what buyers paid in completed deals. The listings skew towards newer and pricier cars than the group that eventually finds a buyer.

The price falls most steeply between the 2010 and 2013 model years

Among the newest model years the price drops steadily and predictably. The median for a 2023 car was 22,790 €, for a 2019 car 15,400 € and for a 2016 car 10,890 €. Three years of age therefore costs roughly the same wherever you look along the curve.

At the 2013 model year the pace changes. Its median was 6,900 €, the 2011 median 4,899 € and the 2009 median only 3,470 €. From the 2008 model year down the median settles below two thousand euros and barely falls further, because by then condition sets the price rather than the year.

The bar shows the range half of the deals fell into, and the mark inside it is the median. In recent model years the bar is narrow, because the cars are much alike and price follows the trim level. In older ones it widens, because the same model year holds both well-maintained cars and cars waiting for an inspection they may not pass. Mileage separates the two ends just as clearly: the median for a 2019 car was 111,000 km and for a 2010 car already 242,257 km.

Petrol is the most common fuel

998 petrol Golfs were sold, or 63.8% of the total. Diesel accounts for 22.9%, and electric, gas and plug-in hybrid cars together came to only a little over a hundred in the month. The mix is older for the Golf than for the market as a whole, which fits the fact that the cars sold are old.

The price differences between fuels look large, but they say more about the age of the cars than about the fuel. The median for a petrol Golf was 4,100 € and for a diesel 3,390 €, because both groups are full of cars built in the 2000s. The hybrid median was 23,900 € and the plug-in hybrid median 16,900 €, because those exist only in the newest model years in the first place.

In Uusimaa the Golf that changes hands is a pricier one

Uusimaa is by far the largest single region with 325 deals, which is 20.8% of all Golf sales in the country. Next come Pirkanmaa with 168 deals and Varsinais-Suomi and Pohjois-Pohjanmaa, which each saw 122 deals.

The price differences between regions are wider than the sales volumes would suggest. The median price of a Golf sold in Uusimaa was 8,200 €, in Pirkanmaa 4,650 € and in Päijät-Häme 3,000 €. This is not regional pricing but a difference in age: newer cars change hands around the capital, older ones elsewhere.

What each price bracket buys

Dealers sold 872 Golfs, or 55.7% of the deals, and private sellers 693, or 44.3%. The split is more even than for the market as a whole, and the reason shows in the price distribution: the cheapest quarter of cars never reaches a dealer's forecourt at all.

For a buyer that means the budget picks the seller and the generation of car as well. A Golf for a few thousand euros is in practice a car from the 2000s with some three hundred thousand kilometres on the clock, and its condition decides everything. Around ten thousand euros you are in the 2015 and 2016 model years, where the median mileage is still under two hundred thousand kilometres.

At the top of the range sit Volkswagen's hybrids and plug-in hybrids, with median prices of 23,900 € and 16,900 €. Only a few dozen are sold in a month, so they barely move the median for the model as a whole. It is worth narrowing your search by model year rather than by price, because with the Golf price follows age more closely than trim.
